SUMMER 2023
IT'S ME
A MAGELLANIC
PENGUIN!
This species of penguin is native to South America. Magellanic penguins are found along the coasts of Chile, Argentina, and the Falkland Islands with some migrating north to Brazil and Uruguay. These birds can live in diverse habitats, including forests, grasslands, bare cliffs, headlands, and islands. They are able to drink seawater due to having a supraorbital gland, which acts as a filter, removing salt from their blood. During hot days, these penguins pant like dogs and when looking for mates, unpaired penguins typically emit a braying call like donkeys.
